it's always hard to prove you had an idea first, but if you're really concerned you can register it with the writers guild (it's only like ten or fifteen bucks to register something) or take the poor mans route and write down your idea, seal it in an envelope and mail it to yourself. That way it's proof you came up with the idea with a governments post date. It's not as reliable as registering with the guild, but it's a viable copyright none the less.

It's super hard to prove your stuff was stolen, since there is so much content out there, so unless they've used the same characters, with the same names, with the same story.

You don't have too much going for you... Sad but true.
